Recommendations for adults “How to prepare a child for a dental appointment?”

  • A few days before the appointment, tell your child that they are going to visit the dentist. You can watch videos or cartoons about teeth with your child.
  • Do not say the phrases: “It won't hurt”, “they won't give you a shot”, “They're just going to have a look”. In everyday life, when the child did something wrong, do not scare that you will take to the doctor.
  • For children with a “daily routine,” it is better to come to the appointment after bedtime. The child should be well-fed.
  • During the appointment, behave naturally, do not be nervous, do not raise your voice at the child

At the first appointment, children and adolescents under 18 must be accompanied by parents or other legal representatives.

The following documents are required for the child’s first visit and registration:
  1. Child’s identity documents – Rodný list (Birth Certificate) – to prove identity and parentage.
  2. Legal representative’s documents:
    • ID card or passport of the parent or guardian accompanying the child.
    • If the child is accompanied by a person other than the father/mother, a certified power of attorney from the legal representative is required to represent the child’s interests at the medical facility.

Subsequent visits may be accompanied by a grandparent or other adult family member, provided written consent is submitted by the parents/legal representative.

Written consent from a parent/legal representative is also sufficient for a nanny (or other non-relative) to accompany the child after the first visit with the parents/legal representative for routine visits and non-invasive procedures (e.g., prophylaxis, monitoring, treatment of dental caries without anesthesia). If a serious intervention is planned (anesthesia, surgery, implantation, general anesthesia, etc.), a notarized consent is mandatory.
