Baby teeth: structure and vulnerability
The structure of children’s baby teeth is no different from permanent teeth. They have a root and pulp – fibrous connective tissue consisting of nerve fibers and vessels. However, adults visit dentists with pulpitis much less often than children. What is the reason?
The tooth enamel of baby tooth units is thinner, and the dentin is not yet fully formed. Infection, once in the oral cavity, spreads very quickly and begins its destructive effect. This leads to the development of progressive caries.
Signs of pulp inflammation in children: when treatment is necessary
If you do not pay attention to this in time, carious spots actively deepen and soon reach the pulp and nerve. Therefore, the usual filling of the tooth in particularly advanced cases is not enough. There is a need for such a procedure as endodontics – treatment of root canals.
Determine at home inflammation of the pulp in a child can be determined by the following signs:
- acute painful sensations that increase with mechanical impact on the diseased tooth;
- swelling of the gums, cheek;
- elevated body temperature;
- unpleasant breath odor.
In such cases, it is necessary to urgently make an appointment with a dentist. The doctor will manage the attack of acute pain already at the first appointment. If necessary, the child will undergo endodontic treatment of canals.
